The safety parapet is used during the assembly or dismantling of metal scaffolding and represents an efficient yet temporary, crowd protection while the protective parapets are erected (picture 1) and are assembled from below on alternate spans for the whole length of the scaffold.

In the next phase the installer fastens himself to a 1st rope on the “A” bar (picture 2) and to a 2nd rope on the “B” bar (picture 3) before completing higher levels, thereby preventing falls, as the length of the two ropes (150 cm including the two spring-clips) is less than the length of the safety parapet itself (180 cm).

At this point the operator safely assembles the end frame of the closing gate (picture 4). Then, fastened to the “B” bar with the 2nd rope, the installer unfastens the 1st rope from the “A” bar in order to securely install the façade rails to the safety parapet hinges (picture 5). This procedure (assembling the rails while fastening a rope at a time to the “B” bar of the following span – picture 6) will be repeated until the whole level of the scaffolding is completed with installation of the other closing end frame (picture 7).

Once all the elements of the scaffolding are installed, (frames, rails, diagonals, metal platforms and toe-boards – picture 8) the assembly continues to the desired scaffolding level in the manner described.

The installer must be provided with the following EC-standard safety devices: a double-roped, fixed length position body harness (150 cm, including the two spring-clips), non-slip shoes, gloves and a helmet. It is also necessary for the installer or employer to make a risk assessment in order to ascertain the most appropriate safety devices.
